Correspondence, 1804-1853, of attorney George Washington Strong of New York City. The bulk of the correspondence consists of letters written by Strong, 1820-1841, to his his brother in-law John Nelson Lloyd of Lloyd's Neck, Long Island. Strong writes to Lloyd of personal and financial matters, including the welfare and activities of family members and mutual acquaintances, and legal advice concerning the management and administration of the Lloyd family property. The volumes additionally include 51 letters written by various members of the Strong family to and from George Washington Strong, as well as miscellaneous correspondence with friends and associates. Correspondents include Strong's father, Selah Strong, George Bloom, Francis Griffin, John Wells, and Robert Fulton.

John Wells (1770-1823) was a lawyer in New York State responsible for founding the oldest law firm in the United States: Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.
